Coastal erosion dynamics along the central coastline of Ghana (2000–2024): a DSAS-based assessment of ecosystem service implications and coastal management

Coastal erosion poses a significant threat to ecosystem services and livelihoods along Ghana’s central coastline. A recent study utilizing the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) and Landsat imagery (2000–2024) quantified shoreline change, revealing persistent retreat with mean erosion rates exceeding −1.80 m/year. Spatial variability was substantial, with hotspots identified near Anomabo, Apam, and Winneba. These findings underscore the need for targeted coastal management interventions, including ecosystem restoration and sediment management.

Assessing multi-decadal shoreline change and future sea level projections to support coastal adaptation in Selangor, Malaysia

Coastal zones worldwide face escalating pressures from climate change and urbanization, yet the geomorphological stability of tropical coastlines remains a critical research gap. This study assesses multi-decadal shoreline change along a 250 km corridor of Selangor, Malaysia, utilizing Landsat data and the Digital Shoreline Analysis System. Results reveal localized erosion hotspots and project intensifying erosive trends by 2050, informing climate adaptation strategies.
