Does new digital infrastructure promote the low-carbon transformation of fisheries: evidence from carbon emissions across Chinese provinces

New digital infrastructure (NDI) presents a critical pathway toward achieving China’s “dual carbon” goals within the fisheries sector. A recent study, utilizing longitudinal panel data across 30 Chinese provinces (2004-2024), demonstrates a statistically significant reduction in fishery carbon emissions linked to NDI development. Findings reveal that NDI fosters technological progress, optimizes industrial structure, and promotes cleaner energy adoption, with spatial spillover effects indicating broader regional benefits. Spatiotemporal characteristics and dominant dimensions of modern marine ranching development in China

Modern marine ranching (MMR) in China represents a crucial strategy for balancing fishery production and ecosystem health, yet its development exhibits significant regional variation. This study introduces a novel, five-dimensional evaluation framework—encompassing marine resources, market economy, ecological civilization, science–technology talent, and government support—to analyze MMR's spatiotemporal dynamics. Panel data from 2011–2021 reveal a narrowing of regional disparities and highlight the growing importance of innovation and human capital.

Coupling coordination between integrated transport–shipping system and nearshore marine ecology in China’s coastal cities: spatiotemporal evolution and XGBoost–SHAP-based mechanism identification

Achieving a dynamic equilibrium between integrated transport-shipping systems (ITS) and nearshore marine ecology (NME) is paramount for the sustainable development of China’s coastal cities. This study, utilizing longitudinal panel data from 53 cities (2013-2024), assesses the coupling coordination degree (CCD) between these systems. Employing the XGBoost–SHAP approach, we identify key influencing mechanisms, revealing that urbanization and trade dependence significantly shape CCD outcomes. Research on China’s green total factor productivity of aquaculture industry and its influencing factors

Assessing the green development performance of China's aquaculture industry is crucial for sustainable resource management. This study utilizes a rigorous, longitudinal analysis of panel data (2009–2023) from 38 Chinese provinces to measure Green Total Factor Productivity (GTFP) and identify key influencing factors. Employing the Super-SBM model and GML index, findings reveal significant regional disparities and highlight technological progress as a primary driver of growth, particularly in freshwater aquaculture.
