28yo - do I need to start planning for my future instead?

I’m almost 28 years old. I spent 18-24 progressing in a job I hated. Decided to pack everything up and move to Australia for 2 years at 24. I did various different jobs - farm, reception, bartending, ski resort. Before this trip I was in a pretty bad place mentally so it saved me in some ways.

After this, I came back to the UK for 6 months and I ended up in a terrible mindset again, I was living with my parents, but I just focused on saving up at some crappy jobs because I needed to get back out ASAP. I then travelled again for 5 months in Europe and had the best time.

I have been back in Europe the UK for around 8 months now, doing the same crappy job, living at home to save up. I have another WHV booked for Canada in a couple of months. It’s only the past 6 months or so I’ve been feeling some uncertainty on whether I am making the right life decisions. I am rich in experiences and connections, but in reality I’m 28 with no savings, no career, no degree.

I’ve seen conflicting standpoints; some who travelled a lot say their biggest regret is not having the career and not buying the house, and some who didn’t travel say their biggest regret not doing it themselves.

There seems to be this idea out there that if you don’t have the money/house/career by your late 20s, then you’re absolutely screwed for life. My mindset for the past 4 years has been I can get the house/money/career at any age, but I only have a small window to travel when I’m young… however now I’m feeing this worry creeping in of coming out the other end of it all, yes, with great experiences, but without all the other important life things that my peers seem to be accomplishing. I just feel really behind and like I’m way too old to be in this situation!

For context I would like a job in the creative industries. I’m wondering if it would be possible for me to progress my career in smaller ways and still be able to travel…

I am open to hearing all and any thoughts/advice on this!
