Passport Verification - Cant Complete Check-in (United)

UNITED AIRLINES. Flying from USA>Rome, Italy. I was successfully able to check in to my flight. My partner had already uploaded his passport to the United app and was "travel ready". Upon check-in it is saying he needs to verify his passport at the United desk upon arriving to the airport. It will not give him a boarding pass until he does this.

Are we all good as long as we get to the airport early enough for him to check-in and show his passport to the agent and get a boarding pass? So frustrating they do this, just puts me on edge.
