Extra days in Tokyo after flight change – looking for ideas outside the city
Hi everyone,
My partner and I are planning a Japan trip in April and could use some advice on adjusting the last part of our itinerary.
Current plan:
- April 12–16: Tokyo
- April 16–19: Kyoto
- April 19–23: Osaka
- April 23–30: Tokyo (we already booked the Shinkansen from Osaka to Tokyo and on April 27 we are visiting Disneyland which is already fixed)
Originally, we had a shorter stay at the end, but our return flight got canceled and we had to rebook it two days later, which is why we now have quite a long stretch in Tokyo at the end.
We’re considering spending a few days somewhere else after Osaka before returning to Tokyo (we’d like to be back in Tokyo on April 26 to relax before Disneyland). So the best would be 23-26 April.
We’re currently looking at:
- Hakone (for onsen, nature, easy logistics)
- Kawaguchiko (for better Mt. Fuji views)
We were originally planning a day trip to Mt. Fuji anyway, but now we’re wondering if it makes more sense to stay overnight somewhere instead.
Questions:
- Is it worth trying to see Mt. Fuji in late April, or is visibility too unreliable?
- Would you recommend Hakone or Kawaguchiko?
- Are there any other places near Tokyo that would be a better fit?
We’re looking for a mix of nature and a break from big cities...
Thanks a lot!
