Normal behavior?

My baby chicks have done this quite a bit and I wasn't sure what behavior this is and if it's normal. They usually do it on my lap or in my hands. I thought that maybe they want a dust bath, but they never seem to do it when they're in the coarse sand that I got for them. Should I be providing something different for them? Also if anyone has any tips for getting their baby chicks to not scratch all of their feed out of their food container would be greatly appreciated! 😅
